The Strongest Woman on Earth

As many of you may or may not know, I have been training myself to audition for the Indiana Jones Stunt Show at Disney. In addition to doing a fight call, they require you to do 10 pull-ups and a rope climb. While I am pretty confident with my rope climb at this point, the pull-ups have been a nightmare.

With all this training, I got silly one night and produced, directed, and starred in my very own short; something I have never done. I call it, The Strongest Woman on Earth

Here it is, enjoy:

This was my second time really using iMovie all by myself so, I am very proud. It's silly, and certainly not meant to be taken seriously. I apologize for the lack of whip cracking. Although, if you look carefully in the background, you can see part of my prized leather whip.

There should be more whip videos soon. This summer have been so hot, I simply couldn't get any real good practice in. However, I am bent on perfecting my Queensland Crossover and autumn is upon us.

Hang in there for me y'all!

A Long Way to Go

Wow!

It's been a long time. I've been super busy with school so, I am sorry for that. I hope all of you have been doing well.

I've gotten some amazing opportunities while out here. It's been amazing. I did a whip cracking fundraiser called, "Cracking Cancer" where I demonstrated and lectured on the historical, practical, and theatrical purposes of the whip. At this event, we raised over $400 for the American Cancer Society! It was AMAZING!

Additionally, I got to go speak about stage combat and whip cracking at a summer camp for kids who want to learn about the film industry. Again, this was an incredible experience. I love working with kids. They are our future. Who knows? Maybe one of them will become a famous film director and remember me as an inspiration? I don't know but it's fun to consider the possibilities.

I also got to appear at the American Cancer Society's Cattle Baron's Ball where the organization raised almost half a MILLION dollars towards the fight against cancer! This was such a great opportunity. Cancer is a cause that affects everyone so I am always happy to do community service that works towards ending it all.

Lastly, I got some new headshots!

Needless to say, there are a lot of things going on for me right now. Please check out my YouTube channel and Facebook Page to keep posted on all of the news!

Sincerely,

Cracking Cancer the Commercial

I went out yesterday and whipped for a good 2-3 hours as part of a shoot for the commercial for my charity event I am doing. The commercial director sent me a rough cut today of it and I have to say it looks really good. I can't wait to have it completed!

For those of you who don't know, I am creating an event at my school called "Cracking Cancer". What it will be is a 1 Hour Demonstration and lecture of the historical, practical, and theatrical uses of the whip. Additionally (and here's where the charity come in), I will be setting up donation boxes. Because my school does not associate themselves with any other organization, these donation boxes will by my own personal attempt to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

My to-do list gets bigger and bigger as the event gets closer. I think my biggest fear is giving out mis-information. But that is precisely why I am putting together my "agenda" now. I want to make sure everything I do is above and beyond the expectations of not just my peers, but also the experts out there! I know I am still learning but I am very passionate about whips and fighting against cancer. So, here I am, combining the two!

"Cracking Cancer"

Hey Everyone!

I know it's been awhile since I last posted. Let me tell you what I've been up to!

So I am creating and hosting a charity event called "Cracking Cancer" at my school.  I will be giving a demonstration and lecture on the practical, historical, and theatrical uses of the whip. Additionally, I will be putting together donation boxes and encouraging all participants to donate funds to the American Cancer Society. In preparation, I have been working with a very talented graphic designer to put together some posters as well as a film crew to create a mini commercial which will be played at various venues on campus and online.

That paired with my school work and some outside projects I have been working on has made for a very busy Scarlett!

I am super excited for this event and the school is being exceedingly supportive. They are supplying me with a stage, sound equipment, space, and aid in promoting the event. Today, I plan to go to the park both to practice and work out a lesson plan of sorts. I'll need to be doing extra research to build on my existing knowledge of the whip and to make sure I am feeding 100% accurate information.

Anyway, TO THE PARK!!!!

More videos soon!

Snap To It

I have made it my mission to try and get back into the practice of whip cracking at least once a week. I don't want to fall behind or get rusty at all.

It's been tough goings lately. My grandmother's not doing so well and we are waiting to see what exactly will be happening on that front. I have been able to get out and get some more practice in. I actually hit myself in the eye yesterday after I got the chance to film a short routine for you all!

Here it is:

I like this routine and I want to add and perfect it. I think it's got some definite crack patterns going on.  I also want to work harder on my Queensland Crossover. I've noticed I have some nasty habits I have with that particular crack pattern.

Anyway, I'm definitely working on it!

Where have you been...

I'm sorry I haven't posted in a while. My Master's program has gotten very intense and it has absorbed all of my time.

I did get to go out and work on a few new things today, which was nice. I got a good hour or so of practice in.

Now that I feel more comfortable in my "surroundings" I have made it my mission to get out for more whip practice. It, admittedly, took a bit of a back seat to my school work. I suppose that's not too much of a bad thing but I really would like more practice.

I do have some more personal things going on in my life right now. I am actually taking a semi-immediate trip back to where my parents live because of it in a week or two.

I suppose the biggest thing to draw from this entry is thusly: Not every month will end with hours and hours of practice logged. But that's ok. Sometimes, life takes over for reasons beyond our control. The important thing is to keep going and not give up. At this point, I have invested wwaaayyy too much time, money, and energy into this passion of mine. I will not be giving it up any time soon. No worries!!!

I want to get out again soon. Hopefully, I will have more to post then!

Pasta La Vista...Baby

Words cannot express how happy I was in that one moment where I actually cut a small amount of pasta in half..ish.

As I have said before, I have never done targeting before but have always been interested. So, I finally have gotten a small amount of practice and this was the result:

As evident by my happy dance, I was very pleased. Now I'm sure a few of you out there are doing some sort of face-palm, or giggle at the thought that I could be so happy about hitting one target but gosh darn it, did you see me do it!!!!

My Master's program takes up a lot of my week time so I'm hoping to get out on Friday to get more practice in.  I also posted a small tutorial on the "Victorian Cut Back" this week as per a request I received. I'll go into further detail on that at a later date.  As for now, I have class tomorrow and I need some serious sleep.

On Target

As some of you may or may not know, I am very excited about something vague. Basically, I'm thinking of entering a competition and I have a routine all worked out for this particular competition. But there is ONE BIG problem....

I have to work on my targeting. I think when I created this routine I gravely underestimated the difficulty of successfully cutting things with my whip. While I'm not terrible at it, I do need to become more consistent.

My fiance so generously put together a simple rig so I can practice on my own but it is slow goings. One of the biggest reasons is due to weather. My best targeting whip is a leather one and it's been raining like the dickens!

But, once I master the art of whip targeting...(or at least getting decent at it!) I will have one epic awesome routine that I really can't wait to show you all!

The sky looks clear today so hopefully I will be going out and doing some practice. Heck, I may even film it if it's not too embarrassing!

At any rate, classes start up again on Monday so I will know my schedule better by the end of the week. Let's hope there's room for practice!
